"Being the lawyer who comes to mind when things get urgent - that itself is a badge of honor."
Hye-soo Won (36, National Bar Exam, 4th Session), a lawyer at Lee & Ko, said, "It's rewarding to hear a client say, 'You were the only lawyer who came to mind when I was in a hurry.'" Ms. Won was named a 'Best Lawyer' in the 2025 Law Firm Consumer Report, following 2024. Now in her 11th year, she received 10 votes in 2025, earning her place among the 'Best 14' lawyers who reached double-digit votes. She is the only woman among the 14, and also the only one in her thirties.
Six consecutive semesters at the top of her class at Seoul National University School of Law, and top of her graduating class. From her earliest years as a lawyer, Ms. Won was deployed on major matters such as the corporate spin-offs of the LG and LX groups. Behind her glittering resume lies the sense of responsibility and diligence she built up from her second and third years.

- What's the secret to being named a 'Best Lawyer' two years running?
"I try to be ready to answer immediately whenever a client suddenly asks. The habit of preparing before they even ask has naturally become second nature. M&A is sensitive to the economy and to industry trends. I'm already in my 11th year, yet the work is new every time. New business models keep popping up, and clients always bring new questions. You have to study endlessly. You can't just sit at your desk - it's important to keep your antennae up for the market and the industry."
- Many lawyers study. Why do clients seek you out in particular?

"My seniors taught me that 'a lawyer who only answers by email gets a zero.' When I get a client inquiry, I organize my own answer as fast as I can and then always call. It's to confirm whether the answer fits the client's situation and the intent behind the question. I try to understand 'why they're asking this at this moment' and 'why this matter needs reviewing,' and to give practical advice."
- What impressed you about the 2025 Law Firm Consumer Report?
"The negative assessments are coldly honest. These are things that are hard to hear face-to-face. Seeing the assessments set down in writing lets me look back concretely on my shortcomings. Instead of a vague 'I should do well,' it brings into focus what I need to fix."
- What's the challenging part?
"In M&A negotiations, you often fall into a 'deadlock.' At those moments you have to fight your hardest for the client while also weighing alternatives. You have to communicate with the client in real time and find a compromise.

Knowing how far to push and where to adjust is important. You also have to read the boundaries of the risk the client can bear."
- What's behind your rapid growth?
"From my junior years I could communicate directly with clients, oversee due diligence, and handle contract negotiations. My seniors reviewed my work, but in the end, I worked with the sense of responsibility that 'it goes out under my name.' I also learned a great deal from clients. Communicating with operating divisions and corporate lawyers naturally broadens your view. Working in step with clients from my junior days, I think a client-friendly attitude took root in me."
- What are your goals going forward?
"I want to have both depth and breadth. An M&A lawyer must be a 'specialist' and at the same time a 'generalist' who can handle intertwined issues. Depth can be built through effort, but breadth comes from experience. I want to accumulate experience and become a lawyer who gives clients more dependable answers to their questions."
